Every 4th weekend of the month: Uvalde Market Days - Uvalde County

Join us and become part of one of the most unique open air markets in southwest Texas. Come see the rich oasis surrounded by the Texas River Country and the historic town of Uvalde. This monthly event takes place at Memorial Park, located along Highway 90 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. on Saturday and 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday. Crafts, jewelry, food, live music, antiques, collectables, and lots more. Bring the family, sit back and enjoy the area's favorite musical talent, eats and bargains.

July 1-31: 29th Annual Quilt Show - Borger
 When life hands you scraps, make a quilt! This month-long event at the Hutchinson County Museum will showcase beautiful textile arts from quilters around the region. On Sunday, June 11, Susan Denney, textile curator, will present a program on the care and nurturing of your heirloom quilts. Bring a heirloom quilt to share at the workshop!

On Sunday, July 18, Tamra Rene will present a trunk show. Awards will be presented. This event is sponsored by Friends of the Museum, Sisters Scraps. R&R Quilts and More, and Material Girlz of Borger.

 
August 3-12: 15 Meter National Soaring Competition - Uvalde County

August 13-14: Big Bend Ranch Rodeo – Alpine

The 2010 Big Bend Ranch Rodeo is back August 13-14. Watch ranch teams from all over as they compete in two days of non-stop rodeo action. All proceeds go towards scholarships and financial assistance for Sul Ross State University students.

On Saturday morning before the rodeo, check out the chuck wagon cook-off. Cooks and wagons compete against each for the most authentic camp food over an open fire or with coals in cast iron skillets. Other events include a Ranch Horse Association of America competition and a Ranch Horse Cutting competition.

August 13-15: LakeFest Drag Boat Race - Marble Falls

For 19 years, Marble Falls/Lake LBJ Chamber of Commerce has transformed Lake Marble Falls into a liquid quarter-mile "racetrack" and the banks of the lake into a wild three-day boat race party. Drag boat fans swarm Johnson Park on Friday evening for a chance to get up-close and personal with the drivers and boats. Race fans can purchase official shirts and posters for autographs and have their pictures taken with their favorites.

Gates open at 7am on Saturday and Sunday for all day qualifying races. Watch top-fuel boats reach terrifying speeds of 240 miles per hour! Check out the event website, www.marblefallslakefest.com/ for event details.

 
August 14: Texas Wines & Winners - Gillespie County

The 122nd Gillespie County Fair will celebrate Fredericksburg's horse racing history and the growth and recognition of local wineries at the 2nd Texas Wines and Winners event.  This wine tasting will be held on the Fairgrounds during the GCFA Futurity Trails, Maiden Classic Final and Texas Bred races.  There will also be classes on wine pairings and other related areas.  For more information, visit our website www.gillespiefair.com/.

 
August 28: Santa Rita Days - Big Lake

Come to Big Lake and celebrate the Santa Rita #1 - the discovery well of the Permian Basin oilfield. Events include a parade, creative arts show, music all day, food and game booths, jewelry booths, and an outdoor concert. Kids will enjoy rock wall climbing, a blow up slide and a dunking booth.

September 3-4: 3rd Annual Briscoe Ranch Beef BBQ Challenge - Uvalde County

September 3-11: 54th Annual Maize Days Celebration - Friona

The Maize Days Celebration is a local heritage event that has been around for 54 years. The week's events include the crowning of Miss Friona and Little Miss Friona, and a Gospel gathering of local talent.  The Friona High School Homecoming event and the crowning of the 2010 Homecoming Queen will take place on Friday, September 10. The weekend's activities will include the parade, food booths, class reunions, and live music at the Friona City Park.

September 11: 3rd Annual Dripping with Taste Wine and Food Festival - Dripping Springs

Dripping Springs Area Chamber of Commerce is proud to host the 3rd annual event. This event is not only geld in one of the most beautiful areas in Texas, it will host wineries from the 2nd fastest-growing wine destination in the nation, the Hill Country! Don't miss Texas' finest wine and food, complemented by a soft mix of music and fine art, Culinary & Wine demonstrations, Texas Craft & Food artisans and micro-brewed ale.

September 16-19: Hummer/Bird Celebration - Fulton

Each year thousands of hummingbirds migrate to Rockport-Fulton to eat before they head south. Come see featured homes with many birds attending multiple feeders, beautiful garden habitats and hummer banding. Festivities include lectures by nationally known speakers on hummers, butterflies and 85 nature themed vendors offering nature related wares.

September 18: Pecan Capital GO TEXAN Wine & Food Fest - San Saba

The Pecan Capital GO TEXAN Wine & Food Fest is a one of a kind event that includes every aspect of the pecan industry. Events include baking contests, pecan chunking contests, Pecan Queen Pageant, a song-writers tent, helicopter and several GO TEXAN food, restaurant and wine members.

October 2: El Campo Prairie Day Festival - El Campo

The second El Campo Prairie Day Festival will take place on Saturday, October 2 at Alamo Park. The Prairie Days Festival is a family friendly event celebrating generations of history, tradition, and family values-observing the area's heritage and honoring the Pearl of the Prairie. Festivities include all day and night entertainment, a spaghetti cook-off, tractor pull and exhibit, pony rides, kiddie events and more. Admission is free, and visitors are encouraged to bring a canned food for needy families.

October 2: Pioneer Days - Whitney

Join us for the annual Pioneer Days Festival October 2, 2010 in beautiful Whitney, Texas.  There will be over 100 arts and crafts booths, 20 food booths, and a large parade and carnival.  Rodeo finals will be conducted by the Open Range Cowboy Church.  Fun and food for the whole family!  Come see us for North Central Texas' most well attended festival!  For more information, visit us on the web at www.lakewhitneychamber.com/.

 
October 7-10: Open County Road Race - Presidio County

The American Road Rally Race executed the first road race back in 2001, and this is the first year the event will be held in this area. The race will take place between Marfa and Presidio. Other events include rookie schools, welcome parties, parades, car shows and a banquet and awards ceremony.

 
October 15-17: Llano River Chuck Wagon Cook-Off & 2nd Annual Ranch Rodeo - Llano October 15-17: Llano River Chuck Wagon Cook-Off & 2nd Ann

"Man at the Pot!" Don't worry...it's just a way of ordering coffee at the 6th Annual Llano River Chuck Wagon Cook-off. Step back in history and belly up to the Old West! Join us along the banks of the beautiful Llano River Friday-Sunday, October 15-17 as fourteen or more authentic wagons circle and set-up living history campsites.

The 2nd Annual Ranch Rodeo will also be held at the Community Rodeo grounds located just a mile from the square. This isn't your typical rodeo! See events like wild cow milking, team sorting, trailer loading and branding. There will be a western dance afterwards and proceeds from the Ranch Rodeo will go to a scholarship fund benefitting the Llano Rodeo Queen.

October 16: 2nd Annual SANE Golf Tournament -Uvalde County

Four man teams will compete in this tournament. Shot gun start is at 12:00 noon, participation fee is $100.00 per player. For more information, call Suzanne Rue at 830-278-6251 X 1225 or s.rue@umhtx.org.  

 
October 16: 7th Annual Chocolate Lovers Festival - Lexington

Spend the day surrounded by chocolate at the Chocolate Lovers Festival-Saturday, Oct. 16.  The day starts with a gourmet chocolate pancake breakfast, followed by a 5K Chocolate Dash.  Chocolate Alley features samplings and treats for sale. 

View the best chocolate cakes and desserts, and all are open for bidding in the silent auction.  A slip-n-slide, bounce-house, children's games and contests, pony rides, and rock-climbing wall entertain the kids throughout the afternoon.  Roving chocolate-ambassadors will be distributing samples, and all crafts booths have free chocolate samples for visitors.  The Historical Log Cabin Museum, an antique machine display, car show, and music will keep you entertained through the afternoon.

The day ends with a very exciting chocolate-themed Fear Factor Contest. Live bugs are consumed - chocolate-covered, of course!  Admission is free with small fees at booths. For more information, www.chocolateloversfestival.com// or call Cindy at 979-773-9100.

 
November 6: George West Storyfest - George West

Stories come to life at the 22nd Annual George West Storyfest. Come to The Storytelling Capital of Texas to hear all types of stories, ranging from tall tales to history, folktales to cowboy poetry, and much more. The state's biggest liars will be on hand to compete in the Texas State Liars' Contest ©.

November 6: Grand Street Fall Festival - Whitewright

What started out as a small downtown merchant event 8 years ago has blossomed into an annual tradition to kick off the holiday season. Over 120 vendors will be selling arts/crafts and gifts. Other events include a Family Fun Run, Art Show, Recipe Contest, Classic Car Show, Petting Zoo, train rides, line dancing lessons, street dance and much, much more.
